Korea Shopping: Must Buy - Korean Exfoliating Cloth

There are a few items that are super great to get in Korea. One of these items are Korean exfoliating cloths!

If you've ever been to a Korean spa or jjimjilbang and have gone and had the body scrub, these are the cloths they use!

Has anyone gotten a scrub at a jjimjilbang? Isn't this one of the most painful, but rewarding experiences when you leave with super soft skin and about 2 shades lighter?

When you go to the jjimjilbang, is a procedure, first you have to shower, then you soak for a while in a hot pool and then you can go around, there are generally multiple pools with varying temperatures. Then, you have the option of going to a ttae ajumma (for ladies, I don't know if there are ttae ajeosshis for men or if it's an ajumma) for an additional fee (usually around 10,000-20,000KRW) for an intense exfoliation session.

Seriously, it's intense. You leave and your skin is bright red and I swear that at least 3 layers of skin were scrubbed off. After you recover, your skin will be SUPER soft and probably about 2-3 shades lighter. It's great and definitely worth it from time to time, especially if you are prone to rough, dry patches of skin.

Now, you can have a Korean spa exfoliation day at home!

You can easily find these cloths all over Korea. I would recommend going to a market and wandering around a while. You will be able to buy them in bulk and also potentially be able to haggle with the vendor about the prices. I have gotten about 5 or 6 for 1,000 KRW, it just depends on the day, vendor, etc.

If all else fails, you can definitely find them at Korean home goods stores like HomePlus, Emart, or Lotte Mart in the bath section.

I have also bought a lot of them at Daiso. There, you can get 2 or 3 of them for 1,000KRW. And, if you're concerned a little about haggling and Korean language, you can see all your options.

There are a ton of options as the picture shows: square pocket, gloves, mittens, long towels, etc.
